About the Role
As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will be a cornerstone of our backend discipline. This role goes beyond writing code; you will be instrumental in designing scalable, future-proof features and ensuring the long-term health of our codebase. We're looking for an independent thinker who can see the bigger picture, challenge assumptions, and contribute to the productization of our platform. You will report to the Backend Team Lead and help shape the technical direction of our core application.
Design, build, and maintain robust and scalable APIs using Python, Django, and Django REST Framework (DRF)
Work with our core data store (PostgreSQL) and write performant queries, primarily through an ORM, while understanding the underlying SQL
Containerize applications and services using Docker for deployment on our Kubernetes (EKS) infrastructure
Collaborate with product, frontend, and design teams to conceptualize and implement new features
Take ownership of code quality, performance, and health across the backend monolith
Contribute to architectural decisions and find patterns to optimize and productize our systems
Experience building backend systems with Python and Django/DRF
A strong product-first mindset, with experience working in a product company (not just agency or project-based work)
Solid understanding of SQL principles to ensure performant database interactions, even when using an ORM
Hands-on experience with Docker
Experience working on and maintaining large, long-lived codebases
