Gapstars Finance builds dedicated finance teams for Dutch accounting firms, finance departments and scale-ups from our hubs in Sri Lanka and Portugal. Our professionals work as full team members of the client. Gapstars takes care of recruitment, HR, learning & development and retention. The client manages the daily work.
Why this role exists
Our finance professionals in Sri Lanka are well qualified (ACCA, CIMA,CA). What they often lack is knowledge of the Dutch way of working: the systems, the standards and the expectations of Dutch accounting firms. Right now, too many of those questions end up with our clients.
The Finance Domain Expert solves that. You are the daily point of contact for the team in Colombo, you take care of on-boarding and development, and you make sure questions about Dutch accounting practice are answered internally. Next to that, you support the sales process as our finance expert in client conversations
The Role
Finance Domain Expert
Requirements
What you will do
Team support and on-boarding (the biggest part of your week)
You support finance professionals spread across client teams of 1 to 16 FTE per client. You are the first person the team turns to with questions about Dutch accounting work, so they do not need to ask the client how things are done in the Netherlands. You take care of the technical on-boarding of new colleagues and coach the team on compilation work according to Dutch standards. Where needed, you also help with audit questions.
Learning & development
You set up training on Dutch accounting practice, systems and soft skills, and deliver it yourself. You see where knowledge is missing per person and per client team and create development plans for it. You actively look for ways to use AI in the daily work and approach partners and tools for this yourself.
Commercial support (20 to 40% of your time)
You join discovery calls with prospects and clients. Based on your own experience at a Dutch firm, you advise which tasks fit well with the Gapstars team and which are better kept with the client. This makes our story towards Dutch accounting firms stronger.
Community and culture
You are in our Colombo office every day. You bring the team together, organize knowledge sharing and work closely with our HR Business Partner on engagement and retention.
Right hand of the Business Lead
You are responsible for the operational delivery in Sri Lanka: performance, quality and escalations. You flag risks early and support technical assessments during recruitment.
What we ask
• You have worked at a Dutch accounting firm. This is a hard requirement. • Solid hands-on experience with compilation work (samenstelpraktijk) • At least 5 years of experience in finance. • Fluency in Dutch will be a huge advantage, because you work daily with Dutch client files and systems such as Exact, Twinfield, AFAS and Caseware. • Good professional English as well. • You live in Colombo or are willing to move there, and you are in the office every day. • You take ownership: you build the L&D program, drive AI adoption and approach partners without anyone having to ask. • You enjoy coaching people and get energy from making others better.
Nice to have
• You already live in Sri Lanka • Audit experience • Experience in a company finance team after your firm years • AA or RA qualification, completed or in progress • Experience training or coaching juniors • A network in the Dutch accounting sector
What success looks like after 12 months
New colleagues are productive for clients faster. Questions about the Dutch way of working are solved internally instead of with the client. A fixed training program is running for the whole team. You contribute to won deals in sales conversations. And the Business Lead can focus fully on sales, because delivery in Sri Lanka runs well.
What we offer
• Living and working in Sri Lanka while staying active in Dutch accounting practice. • A key role in a growing business with a lot of freedom to shape things yourself. • Working directly with the Business Lead, short lines and real responsibility
