Gapstars is a Netherlands-based software development services provider that builds remote, agile teams in Sri Lanka and Portugal for innovative tech companies. Today, we are home to 250+ TechStars and innovative minds, turning scalable software into performance products that shape the future. Our partners are highly ambitious tech companies that are looking to conquer their respective markets.
We are now looking for a Backend Software Developer (Medior) to join PFM Intelligence, Europe’s leading independent movement‑data platform. PFM processes real-time footfall and occupancy data for 7,800+ locations across NL, BE, DE, and the UK, and is currently transitioning into a full Platform‑as‑a‑Service (PaaS) company. This role plays a key part in that evolution.
The focus of this position is to build high-impact backend integrations that connect PFM’s core platforms and automate critical commercial processes. This is a hands-on role where you will own meaningful technical components and contribute directly to how the platform scales.
You will work closely with a senior engineer, backend developer, cloud migration specialist, and ERP application specialist in a remote-first, highly collaborative environment. Engineers make technical decisions, and you will have autonomy to design, build, and iterate on backend services that operate in production at scale.
Develop the bidirectional integration between the ERP system and PFM Toolbox, ensuring sites and devices stay fully synchronized across platforms.
Build the automated subscription and invoicing engine, enabling the platform to generate and update subscriptions for 22,500+ devices across multiple regions and currencies.
Design and operate Python-based backend services using AWS Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, and Step Functions.
Contribute to a serverless, cloud-native architecture with a strong focus on reliability, maintainability, and clear data flows.
Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure integrations are robust, scalable, and aligned with business needs.
1+ years of professional experience with Python
3+ years of hands-on experience with AWS (Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, API Gateway, Step Functions)
Experience building and operating backend services in production
Strong understanding of integrations, data flow, and system consistency
Experience working with ERP systems (API integrations or custom modules)
Familiarity with serverless architectures and REST API design
Ability to work independently in a remote, async-first environment
Clear communication and ownership mindset
SQL (PostgreSQL)
AWS CDK (Typescript)

Experience with monitoring and instrumentation (Sentry)
If you’re looking for a role where you can build meaningful backend solutions and work with autonomy, I’d love to hear from you.
